About this event

VIRTUAL CANADIAN SMART CITIES MISSION TO EUROPE 2020

The Trade Commissioner Service in Europe is organizing a Virtual Smart Cities Mission to Europe in November 09-19, 2020 helping Canadian companies to grow their business activities and footprint in the region. Canada and the European Union concluded in recent years the negotiation of a historic economic agreement, the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA). CETA’s entry into force in 2018 enhanced growth, innovation and competitiveness between Canada and Europe and it will remain to do so.

Delegates will have the opportunity to build and refine their Smart Cities export strategy with best-in-class subject matter experts and one-on-one meetings with industry buyers and partners. Grow with confidence and connect with key contacts to expand your market footprint in Europe.

Who Should Join Us?

• Trade-ready Canadian companies in the Smart Cities sector who are interested in selling their services and technologies to the European market

• Start-up-to-small businesses who are interested in exporting to Europe with a recognized capacity to scale

• Research organizations interested in connecting and building relationships with European counterparts

Why we are going

• In 2050, two thirds of the world population will live in urban areas, consuming over 70% of energy and emitting just as much greenhouse gases. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed how we live, work, and move about in our cities. The broad theme in the mission will be how to build healthy and sustainable cities. Innovative solutions are needed to solve some of the world’s toughest problems

• European governments have become leaders in innovation and disruptive technologies developing national strategies to develop and implement smart solutions in Mobility, Energy Efficiency, Government, infrastructure, among others.

• Western European Smart Cities spending is forecasted to reach about 24.7% of total global spending or approximately US$30 billion in 2020.

• Smart City Live, the virtual edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress—the world’s leading event for cities—is taking place in November 2020 and will attract the latest Smart Cities technologies, solutions and innovation.

What will the program Include?

• Highly curated and professionally organized business-to business meetings with cities, regional and intergovernmental organizations, corporate buyers and research and academic professionals

• Connecting with best-in-class subject matter experts and intermediaries to provide insight and help Canadian companies refine and adapt their market entry and expansion strategies

• Learn from successful Canadian companies who have been awarded with contracts in European cities

• Educational content and webinars about the main economic, political, and technological trends, and key challenges and opportunities on different European markets.

• Canadian companies will be able to connect with forward-thinking cities, potential clients, innovators, and investors across Europe without having to travel overseas.
